A Poem Based in Psalm 32:3-5

Verse 1: When I kept silent and allowed the evilness dwelling illegally within me to eagerly plow and then seed-sow (with death) the fields of my heart, my frame grew old and, through long days of deep mourning, wasted within me.

REFRAIN: O, Holy, Glorious, and Gracious God… in humility, I confessed to You that I had transgressed Your intentions and commands and that I had violated willfully the ancient order You set in-place. O Eternally Knowing, Loving, Living, and Forgiving One… because of Your great mercy and unfailing love, You washed me in You. And, because of You, I was made clean and whole again. In my current repose, my gratefulness to You knows no bounds.

Verse 2: Through each long day and every gut-wrenching twist and turn of night, Your open Hand of Guiding Mercies, though indeed burdensome, quite strangely weighed gloriously upon me. While the sweet juice of my vitality dried up, and my heart became like a parched land under the heat of a high sun (so that the evil seeds sown in darkness would never sprout), I was drawn—irresistibly—to You… and to Your never-ending, ever-reaching life, light, and love and to Your never-ending, ever-reaching glory, goodness, and gladness. It was the kindness of Your all-knowing gaze, as it shined down upon me, that brought about my undoing!

Verse 3: When I finally acknowledged my wrongs to You, O LORD, and cutoff every vain attempt to self-hide my iniquities, Your love broke through the highjacking willfulness that had seized so violently upon me.

Verse 4: In settledness, my heart turned to You; in stillness, I let myself feel myself known thoroughly and loved through and through by You. And, again, and with even greater force than before, Your love broke through. With tenderness and great strength, You healed my heart (The Eden of My Soul) and gave it back to me.

The Conclusion to the Matter: O LORD… In this moment, I feel nothing but deep gratefulness to You and for You… NOTHING but gratefulness! For You gave Yourself away to me—eternally. You forgave me (in, because, and for you; and for me, too!)—eternally. You washed me (in, because, and for you; and for me, too!)—eternally. And… You put away eternally—again in, because, and for you; and, again, for me, too!)—the isolating guilt, shame, and infirmities that rose from the stem cells of my wrongdoings. Yes, O LORD, You gave me my heart back; and, in this moment of current repose, I feel nothing but deep gratefulness to You and for You… NOTHING but gratefulness! May all praise and glory be ascribed to You, O God of Ineffable Peace and Rest!
